Event 6578 and 6949 occurs on EV servers while client perform Vault Cache Synchronization

A Dtrace of MigratorServer shows an incorrect server name when compared to the contents of the ComputerEntry table in the EnterpriseVaultDirectory database.

Resolution

Identify the affected archive and reset the Vault Cache.  

The options available are as follows:
Reset
Partial Reset

  1. Locate the affected user based on the above ArchiveID:
  2. Open the Vault Admin Console
  3. Hold Ctrl + Shift and Right-click Archives in the left pane
  4. Select Find Archive / Archive folder
  5. Paste in the ArchiveID and click search.
  6. Once the User Archive is identified, perform the following steps to Reset the related Vault Cache
    1. Press CTRL + SHIFT together and one of the Enterprise Vault buttons in the top right hand corner of the Outlook Client.
    2. This will bring up the Enterprise Vault Diagnostics window.
  7. Press Reset to trigger the process to rebuild the Vault Cache or Partial Reset to affect the Metadata

Reset performs the following: 

  • Deletes all Metadata & Content Cache files.
  • Forces a full synchronization and initializes download.

    Note: Please be aware that resetting the Vault Cache will require Outlook to be closed and re-opened before the rebuild of Vault Cache can occur. All previous Vault Cache content will be required to be downloaded again.
     

Partial Reset does the following: 

  • Just affects all the Metadata Cache.
  • Forces a full synchronization and initializes download.

Issue/Introduction

When a user attempts to use Vault Cache the operation fails and Event 6578 and 6949 appear in the Enterprise Vault event logs. These events may repeat depending on the Vault Cache operation performed.
