Error when the path is missing or incorrect:

Directory lookup for the file "\AnalyticsCaseFile__.ndf" failed with the operating system error 3(The system cannot find the path specified.). One or more files listed in the statement could not be found or could not be initialized.

Cause

The errors indicate either a missing file, or a missing or incorrect path to the file, and are usually caused by the file being removed or the databases being moved to a different SQL server.

Resolution

Before making any changes to the Analytics file locations, it is important to consult with the onsite SQL team to determine if any database files may have been moved or removed, or if any SQL server moves, changes or updates may have been made.

If any missing files have been restored to their locations as specified in the error above, re-try enabling Analytics in the DA Case.

If the existing file paths were incorrect, the new file paths have been determined and the Analytics files are present in the new locations, the Analytics file locations can be updated in the DA Customer properties, as follows:

1. Log on to the DA server as the Vault Service Account (VSA) and open the EVBAAdmin administration web site, typically at http://localhost/evbaadmin.
2. Right-click the DA Customer under the DA server and select Properties.
3. Edit the locations:
3.1. In the Database Locations for Analytics section, click on Edit next to the first Location entry.
3.2. Edit the Location to a valid location on the SQL server. Can also Delete an existing location or add a New Location as needed (se sure to select the Table File Group option, Full Text Indexes option or both options as needed. Important - If deleting a location, be sure the specified location does not contain any Analytics files.
3.3. Click on OK.
3.4. Repeat for any other Location entries that may contain invalid paths.
4. Click the OK button at the bottom of the pane when all locations have been updated as needed.
5. Repeat for any additional DA Customers as needed.

Note

If the missing files cannot be restored to the existing file paths, editing the Analytics file locations may not allow Analytics processing to continue. For DA Cases where the Analyitcs .ndf files cannot be restored, it may be required to disable Analytics in the DA Case, run SQL backups of the DA Customer database, then re-enable Analytics in the Case. If there are errors when disabling Analytics, please contact technical support for assistance.

Issue/Introduction

When enabling Analytics in an Enterprise Vault (EV) Discovery Accelerator (DA) Case, an error referencing a missing file may be displayed. in the Analytics tab of the DA Case. Clicking on the error hyperlink will display a pop-up box with the error details. Clicking on the More information button will display one of the two errors as listed below. Note the errors are very similar and differ only in the error number and the reference to the missing file or path.
