Error Message

Getting Error (TestUser/SYMC) cannot open database (Server_name!!EV\EV_00000004.nsf)

Solution 1

  1. Check the Person document in the Domino Directory (names.nsf) and ensure it contains a valid Domino Domain name in the 'Domain' field.
  2. If the field is empty, edit the person document and add the appropriate Domino Domain.  Save the document.
  3. Replicate the Domino Directory (names.nsf) change to the Enterprise Vautl Domino Gateway(EVDG) server.
  4. From the Enterprise Vault Administration console, navigate to the Tasks container of the EVDG server hosting the Domino Provisioning Task.
  5. Right click on the Domino Provisioning Task and click Properties.  Click on the 'Synchronization' Tab and click on the 'Synchronize Individual Mailboxes' button.
  6. Follow the prompts to select the user's mailbox and perform the synchronization.
  7. Confirm the user is able to retrieve the archived items.

Solution 2

If the customer has changed the person document by removing Domain field, Mail type, etc due to a migration and therefore cannot be changed back, then the recommendation is to follow these steps:

  1. Open Domino Admin Client
  2. Register a new temporary Domino account with mailbox database so that domain field, mail type etc. are all included for the new user
  3. Add this account to all mailboxes that the user will need to access with at least editor rights in ACLs.  The mailboxes must still have the Enterprise Vault Mail template for shortcuts to work.
  4. Replicate Domino Directory to other Domino servers
  5. Open Vault Admin Console
  6. Run provisioning task(s) so that the permissions synchronize back to the archives for those mailboxes
  7. Test by logging in with the new user account / user ID file, open one of the mailboxes that this user was given access to, and try opening a shortcut to an archived item.  If this works then give the new ID file and password to the user seeking to access these users mailboxes and archives.

Cause

The user is not a member of any provisioning group or the Domino Provisioning Task is unable to provision the mailbox.  In some cases, the error below is reported in the Domino Provisioning Task Report.

Unable to provision mailbox for user 'CN=Test User/O=SYMC' - Person record in Domino Directory is missing required field 'MailDomain'
