Cause

Under certain circumstances, CA searches will revert from Department ID tag searching to legacy (SMTP address) searching.

Resolution

Compliance Accelerator utilizes the Department tag as long as all of the following conditions are met:

1. Message Tagging is currently in use.  This can be noted by a date being present in the 'First department query' date setting can be found under:
Configuration | Settings | Random Capture | (hidden setting) First department query

2. The Search Criteria is a Department search and not an individual search (for example, the Department is specified instead of individual Monitored Employees within the Department).

3. The Date Range start date is on or after the 'First Department Query' date or the Department's creation date, whichever is newer (for example, if the Department's creation date is 26 July 2016 and the 'First Department Query' date is 29 January 2016, the search date range would need to start on 26 July 2016 in order to use the Department ID search).

4. The Date Range end date is no later then the current date.

5. The Search criteria includes Journal, SMTP and / or Shared Archives as only items in these archive types have Department ID tags applied.

6. The 'Force Legacy Searching' option is not enabled, under:
Configuration | Settings | Search | (hidden setting) Force Legacy Searching

Otherwise, the search criteria reverts to SMTP addresses in the author and / or recipient fields.
