Unable to delete items from an Enterprise Vault (EV) archive

Cause

DVS files created for archive email are set to Read-Only.

Resolution

Perform the following checks:

 

  1. Ensure that the setting Users can delete items from their archives is enabled at the site level. (EV Admin Console -> Site -> Properties -> Archive Settings)
  2. Ensure that the Search Policy allows users to delete items from their archives using EV Search. (EV Admin Console -> Policies -> Search -> Default Search Policy -> Properties -> Features -> ‘Allow Delete Operations’)
  3. Ensure that the user has Delete permission on the archive. (User’s Archive Properties -> Permissions tab)
  4. Ensure that the Retention category associated with the archived item does not have the option Prevent items from deletion under this retention category enabled.
  5. Ensure that the item being deleted is not on legal hold from DA.
  6. Ensure that the device on which the archive item exists is not a Write Once Read Many (WORM) device.
  7. Ensure that the DVS files or folders under which DVS files exist do not have the Read-only attribute set.

When a user tries to delete an item from an archive the following message is presented: This item could not be deleted
