Cause

Corrupt EntepriseVaultPartitionRoot.xml file located at the root of one of the vault store partitions. A dtrace of StorageServer will reveal the following: 

165 09:24:31.080  [7900] (StorageManagement) <9500> EV:H Unable to parse the XML data supplied, error (0xc00ce558):-|>> XML document must have a top level element.|
 

Resolution

Locate the EntepriseVaultPartitionRoot.xml file. The XML file will be at the root of the problematic vault store partition. 

A. Remove the XML file from the folder.  

B. Restart the Storage Service.

C. A new XML file will be created.

The Enterprise Vault (EV) Storage Service stops suddenly when started.
