In order to disable a mailbox, public folder or journal archiving task filter follow the steps below:
1. Stop the mailbox, public folder or journal archiving task in question. This can be done via the Enterprise Vault Admin console. Once the task has been stopped proceed to step 2.
2. On the Enterprise Vault server that hosts the archiving task for which you wish to disable filtering, start Regedit.
a) Navigate to the following location on a 64-bit operating system
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Wow6432Node\Software\KVS\Enterprise Vault\External Filtering
b) To disable a journal archiving task filter locate the \Journal key
To disable a mailbox archiving task filter locate the \Mailbox key
To disable a public folder archiving task filter locate the \PublicFolder key
Note: It is possible to set a filter for all archiving tasks by using the \External Filtering key directly instead of a specific sub key (as above). In this case then the filter will exist in this key and this step can be skipped.
3. Within the relevant key there will be one or more numbered entries "1", "2", "3" and so on. Each of these numbers relates to a filter. Most often there is only a single filter installed and in this case there will only be a single entry called “1”.
4. Backup the \External Filter, \Mailbox, \PublicFolder or \Journal registry keys, as required, for future reference.
5. Delete the numbered string entries from within either \External Filtering, \Mailbox, \PublicFolder or \Journal that relate to the filter you wish to remove (see note 2 below).
6. Close Regedit.
7. Restart the mailbox, public folder or journal archiving task in question.
8. Check the Windows application logs upon task start-up to ensure that the custom filter was not loaded
Note: If you have more than a single filter listed then after deleting the relevant item the remaining filters will need renumbered to ensure the numbered sequence is not broken. For example if you have filter values for 1, 2 and 3 and you remove filter number 2 then you would need to rename filter 3 to become 2 so that the sequence is now 1, 2. Leaving the sequence unchanged at 1, 3 would mean that filter number 3 (and any subsequent higher number) will be ignored.
Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.
