Description

Error Message

Log Name: Symantec Enterprise Vault
Source: Enterprise Vault
Event ID: 4216
Task Category: Directory Service
Level: Warning
Access denied. User is not in a role that allows '{ IDX } Can manage Index Location Backup Mode'.

V-437-4216

Cause

When a backup job is started, the backup software can be configured to run a pre-backup script to set Enterprise Vault into Backup Mode. This action is performed under the account for the backup software. This error message might occur if the account lacks the appropriate permissions to set and clear Backup Mode.

Resolution

Use one of the following options to correct this:

  1. Add the backup software service account to the Storage Administrator and Power Admin groups on the local EV server

  2. Configure the backup software service to run under the context of the EV service account (VSA)

The preferred method is to configure Roles Based Administration and assign the backup software service account the following roles:

  • Storage Administrator

For additional information on Roles Based Administration, refer to the  Administration Guide and the PowerShell Cmdlets guide.

Note: The account used must be a  local server account. or a domain authenticated account . The local account can be added to a role by using the format server\user such as EVSERVER\Administrator.  Alternatively, a scheduled task could be created on the EV server, using an account with the proper rights, to run the scripts to set and clear backup mode for EV.
