Description

Error Message

Unable to validate the Public Folder root path.

Check that your Microsoft Exchange Server is running.

Cause

The issue occurs when the Exchange Server that Outlook and ultimately Enterprise Vault is using to perform the lookup of public folders does not have a completed list of public folders.

Resolution

To determine if this is the cause:

1) On the Enterprise Vault server, create an Outlook profile of the <System Mailbox> of the Exchange Server that has the public folder task.

2) Select Ctrl and right click on the Outlook icon in the system tray near the clock and select "Connection Status".

3) Confirm which Exchange Server Outlook is using to lookup public folders.

4) From that Exchange Server launch the Exchange Management Shell and type   get-publicfolder \ -recurse

5) A list of public folders that are visible to that exchange server will be listed.

Applies To

This issue is most likely to occur in a multi-exchange mixed server environment when public folder replication is not occurring properly across exchange servers.
