Description:  
The DELETE statement conflicted with the REFERENCE constraint "FK_JournalingTarget_ExchangeMailboxEntry". The conflict occurred in database "EnterpriseVaultDirectory", table "dbo.JournalingTarget", column 'ExchangeMailboxEntryId'.

Cause

This will occur when a journal mailbox(es) is targeted on a different exchange server but at some point resided on the decommissioned exchange server (the one attempted to be deleted)

 

Resolution

In order to complete deletion of the targeted Exchange server, see steps below:

  1. Stop the Journal tasks that are currently targeting the Journal mailboxes
  2. Delete any journal target mailboxes that were once associated with the exchange server that is to be removed
  3. Delete the decommissioned Exchange server
  4. Re-add the journal mailbox targets
  5. Run the Provisioning task
  6. Restart the Journal task(s)
