Microsoft Internet Explorer Web Controls fails to install on Compliance or Discovery Accelerator

Error Message

When trying to install the Microsoft Internet Explorer Web Controls, the installation can fail with the following error: 

The specified path 'http://servername/webctrl_client' is unavailable.  The Internet
Inforamtion Server might not be running or the path exists and is redirected to another
machine.  Please check the status of this virtual directory in the Internet Services
Manager.

 

Cause

IIS 6.0 Management Compatibility role service must be installed on the server as part of IIS for Microsoft Internet Explorer Web Controls to be installed. 

Note: IIS 6.0 Management Compatibility role service is not required for a Enterprise Vault installation but is required for a Compliance Accelerator and Discovery Accelerator installation.
 
 

Resolution

From Server Manager - Roles - Web Server (IIS) - Add Role Services, add the IIS 6.0 Management Compatibility role service with all subcomponents.

 

This Article only applies to CA/DA versions prior to 14.0.0.  The Microsoft Internet Explorer Web Controls installation is no longer required in the 14.x or greater releases.

 

Issue/Introduction

Installation of Microsoft Internet Explorer Web Controls is one of the prerequisites to installing both Compliance Accelerator (CA) and Discovery Accelerator (DA). This is specified in the CA and DA Installation Guides.
