Cause

This will usually indicate that the Desktop Policy below for Virtual Vault is not enabled: 

Users can hard delete items

Resolution

Verify the following Desktop Policy:

Properties of the Desktop Policy | Advanced | Virtual Vault | Users can hard delete items

If the policy is already set but the client log shows the line below, then the policy has not properly synchronized with the mailbox.  In this case, Zap the mailbox by following Related Article: 100016639

[Policy::IsOpAllowed] Operation: HardItemDelete, Allowed: false

 

Issue/Introduction

When using the option called 'Empty Deleted Items' (after selecting Deleted Items in Virtual Vault) the following error appears:
An Administrative Policy does not allow deletions from your Vault When trying to delete an email from within Virtual Vault Deleted Items folder, the error is:
You don't have appropriate permission to perform this operation
