The cause of this issue found most often is insufficient free disk space on the Enterprise Vault (EV) Storage Service server for the Vault Service Account (VSA) TEMP folder causes items to fail to be retrieved from storage for conversion to MSG files. The VSA TEMP folder is used during normal archiving operations to convert items into HTML or TEXT for indexing, convert items from DVS files to MSG files with attachments as appropriate, and to process search items into XML files. Having insufficient free space for the VSA TEMP folder can cause other issues, such as a shutdown of all EV services.
This issue could also be caused by, but not limited to:
1. The file(s) to be exported being too large for the file system containing the VSA TEMP folder. For example, a FAT32 file system can only manage a file size up to 4 GB - 2 bytes.
2. An email client that is not supported by the Enterprise Vault version. For example, Lotus Notes 8.5.0 is not supported with EV 11 or 12 but 8.5.3 is. Another example is Outlook 64-bit is not supported when exporting to PST but Outlook 32-bit is.
This issue can apply to all versions of Discovery Accelerator (DA) and Compliance Accelerator (CA).
Increase the size of the disk containing the TEMP folder used by the Vault Service Account (VSA) to a minimum of 20 GB of free space (i.e., current size + 20 GB), with 40 GB to 80 GB of free space recommended, on all EV, CA and DA servers..
Note that ensuring sufficient free disk space for the VSA's TEMP folder is part of the recommended optimizations for an Accelerator environment as discussed in the Related Articles section below.
