Description

Error Message

Cannot move the items. Cannot move or copy folders. A top-level folder cannot be moved to one of its subfolders. Or, you may not have appropriate permissions for the folder. To check your permissions for the folder, right-click the folder, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu.

Client log captures the error as such:
EVMSP: [Folder::CreateFolder] A COM error exception has been caught:8004010b
EVMSP: [Prop::GetLastError] hResult: MAPI_E_BUSY
EVMSP: [Common::GetLastError] Returning text: This operation cannot be completed because Vault Cache is currently synchronizing.

Cause

The Virtual Vault advanced policy setting: 'Threshold number of item to trigger synchronization' is set to a value other than 0. Consequently, when that threshold is reached, the Virtual Vault is locked, and a sync is started.

Resolution

Make the adjustments below for Virtual Vault Synchronization:

  1. Open the Enterprise Vault Admin Console (VAC)
  2. Go to Directory on...| EV site | Policies | Exchange | Desktop |
  3. Right click in the Desktop policy affected and select Properties.
  4. Go to the Advanced Tab and List Settings from: Choose Virtual Vault
  5. Set the 'Threshold number of item to trigger synchronization' to 0 so an automatic sync is not triggered.

Note: A manual sync can then be performed once all the moves have been completed to alleviate having to wait until the next scheduled sync.
