Error Message

This issue can cause multiple Notes System Diagnostic (NSD) files.  It is best to restart the physical server, wait for issue to occur, and then look at the first NSD that is created after the restart.  Search for "Last Console Log Messages".  If you see messages like the following then the notes client names.nsf is corrupted:

[3C4C:0005-2D1C] 09/29/2013 03:54:47 PM  Directory Assistance failed opening Primary Domino Directory names.nsf, error: File truncated - file may have been damaged

Resolution

Solution 1:
The first thing that should be tried is to rename the names.nsf from the Notes client and then copy it up to a Domino server and then run fixup on the database.  If this works copy the file back to the client and rename it back to names.nsf.

Solution 2:
If Solution 1 does not work then uninstall the Notes client, remove the left over Notes data with exception to keeping the ID files, install the notes client, and then start and configure the Notes client.

Issue/Introduction

Archiving stops working.  The archiving task will sometimes get a mutant mutex.  And the Notes Client creates a Notes System Diagnostic (NSD) file.
