Cause

This issue might occur if the mailbox has been configured with a Message Size Restriction and the email size is larger than the Message Size Restrictions values.

 

Resolution

Increase the Message Size Restrictions of the affected mailbox on the Exchange server.
  

  1. Open Exchange Management Console.
  2. Expand Recipient Configuration.
  3. Click on Mailbox
  4. Select the affected user mailbox.
  5. Click on Properties.
  6. Click on Mail Flow Settings
  7. Double click on the Message Size Restrictions
  8. Increase the size of the following values:
    1. Sending Message Size > Maximum Message Size in KB
    2. Receiving Message Size > Maximum Message Size in KB
       

Note: To implement this change a restart is needed of the exchange information store service.

Issue/Introduction

Unable to manual archive an email when its size is larger than Exchange Message Size Restrictions. Initial archive attempt convert the large item to the pending shortcut; however, it reverts back to the original email after some time. The default size limit on the Enterprise Vault Mailbox policy was set to 250 MB.
