Cause

eDiscovery uses the Microsoft Outlook PST API to wrap items into the PST. Outlook PST API is not able to convert an EML message to MSG format for insertion into the PST.

Resolution

Work-around:
Use a third party extraction tool, like Discovery Accelerator to export the items from Enterprise Vault.  Then ingest the export into eDiscovery as a Case Folder Source.

There are currently no plans to address this issue by way of a patch or hotfix in the current or previous versions of the software at the present time. While this issue may be resolved in a future major revision of the software at a later time, it is not currently scheduled for any release.  If you feel this issue has a direct business impact for you and your continued use of the product, please contact your Veritas Sales representative or the Veritas Sales group to discuss these concerns.

Issue/Introduction

When Actiance is used to directly ingest Outlook items into the Enterprise Vault Journal Archive, the items are ingested as EML messages instead of a MSG message. Enterprise Vault exports the message in its native form (EML) to eDiscovery. Clearwell cannot wrap EML items from a Journal Archive into PST format causing the EV Collection to fail.
