Error Code:440878, Message:INDEXING_W_SERVICE_BUSY:The search was rejected because the indexing service is too busy.

Cause

The Index Server processes are restricted.  The purpose for restricting Index Processes is to prevent the Enterprise Vault (EV) server from exhausting all the resources and causing the EV product to become unresponsive.

Resolution

Option 1:

Increase the memory on the EV servers to the recommended 32GB and remove the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\KVS\Enterprise Vault\Indexing\MaxIndexServers

Option 2:

Upgrade the 32-bit Indices to 64-bit:

  1. Open The Vault Administrator Console
  2. Right Click on Indexing and select Manage Indexes... and Upgrade
  3. The Wizard will provide the steps to add the affected Archives to upgrade.

Issue/Introduction

eDiscovery EV Collection fails with 'indexing service is too busy' even though no Indexing event logs are registered on the Enterprise Vault server.
