Parameter name: itemUrn The error description is 'An invalid character was found in text content.'.
Could not find prepared statement with handle 0.
sp_xml_removedocument: The value supplied for parameter number 1 is invalid.
The statement has been terminated.

Cause

The issue is caused by one or more files having an invalid character in the name of file.

In the example above the file name shown in Windows Explorer on the File Server displays as "Test File.jpg"

However if you perform a directory listing of the folder you will see it displays as "Te?st F?ile.jpg" as per the FSA log.

This will not apply to all files that the FSA log says has failed, only the ones with a "?" in the name. This is only shown on all files due to the way FSA processes the files in batches.

Please note that the "?" character is the only way Windows can display the character, and EV relies on the way Windows reads the file which is why EV displays the same details in the FSA log.

The file(s) with invalid characters most likely came from another 3rd party operating system such as MAC OS or UNIX where the character was valid, but now the file is on a Windows platform and cannot be read correctly.

Resolution

To fix this particular issue you need to find any filenames in the FSA log that contain a "?" character, which is the invalid character in this instance.

Once you have identified the file(s) affected, then browse to the folder in Windows Explorer and check a DIR listing shows the same as the FSA log.

To fix the file(s) rename the file and retype the name of the file as it appears in Windows Explorer, and then check a DIR listing now shows the correct name.

Once all file(s) have been renamed and the "?" character removed from the name, re-run the FSA Archiving Task and this should now complete successfully.

Issue/Introduction

During FSA Archiving the task completes with the following errors generated in the EV event log:

Type : Error
Event : 41070
Source : Enterprise Vault
Category : File System Archiving Task
Computer : EV_SERVER
Description:
File archiving on File System Archiving Task reported XXXX errors. See report file for details.

When reviewing the corresponding FSA archiving log for the task the following errors are generated:

*** Error *** - Invalid item Urn
Parameter name: itemUrn The error description is 'An invalid character was found in text content.'.
Could not find prepared statement with handle 0.
sp_xml_removedocument: The value supplied for parameter number 1 is invalid.
The statement has been terminated.

This error can be listed for a large number of files in the FSA log, however it may not actually affect all files, it is just due to FSA processing items in a batch and the job fails more than one item.
