Cause

Beginning in Symantec eDiscovery version 7.1.3, many reports incorporate the case name to make identification easier.  As these reports are written to the Microsoft Windows Server operating system, the use of file and directory naming reserved characters cannot be used in a case name.  These characters include:
< (less than), > (greater than), : (colon), " (double quote), / (forward slash), \  (backslash), | (vertical bar or pipe), ? (question mark) and * (asterisk)

Resolution

  1. Go to CaseHome | Details and edit the name of the case
  2. Remove or Replace the reserved character
  3. Save the change and try the report again.

Issue/Introduction

When generating a report in Veritas eDiscovery, file creation may fail or create a Microsoft Excel file of 0 bytes in size.
