Description
Error Message
Enterprise Vault fails to convert items to HTML
Reason: Unspecified error [0x80004005]
V-437-6629
Cause
When an item is stored in Enterprise Vault the contents of messages are converted to Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) or text, ready to be added to the index.
For most message types Enterprise Vault converts the item to HTML. If the conversion fails, it is tried again. If that second attempt fails then a conversion to text is attempted. If the conversion to text also fails, no more attempts are made and event 6629 is logged.
Resolution
Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.
To prevent the conversion errors from appearing in the application event logs, the following registry value can be added:
DWORD: FallbackConversionEvents
Location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\SOFTWARE
\KVS
\Enterprise Vault
\Storage
DECIMAL VALUE:
0 - Errors are not logged
1 - Errors are logged
Controls whether an Application Log entry is made when an item has failed conversion to HTML and, as a fall back, the item was converted to text.
