In the CA or DA Server's Enterprise Vault Event Log:
Event ID 42086
Description: Some items could not be searched
V-437-42086
Items or content missing from the index
Some items could not be searched
When rebuilding an Index or during normal indexing operations, an item may fail to be added to the Index Volume. To keep track of this, a file is created called IndexMissing.log in the Index Volume's folder on disk. This file contains the archive and item information, with a failure code for each failed to index item.
Searches in CA/VAS or DA are searching the index volumes for information. If an index volume has an issue, the Info column for the Index Volume in the Search Details pane will notify the person running the search that the index volume has a problem. One of the messages that can appear is the Items or content missing from the index message. Another is Some items could not be searched: Archive: 'ArchiveName' ID: ArchiveID Index Volume: Index Volume Search ID: SearchID. These messages notify the search submitter that the search returned hits with items successfully being indexed that matched the search criteria but there may be items that meet the search criteria but could not be searched due to not being indexed.
1. Launch the Vault Administration Console with an account that has the proper role assignment to modify indexes, such as the Vault Service Account (VSA).
2. Expand the folders in the left tree view pane to display the Archives folder.
3. Expand the Archives folder.
4. Click on the folder containing the archive with the failed items (i.e., click on the Exchange Journal folder).
5. Double click on the archive with the failed items to display its Archive Properties page.
6. Click on the Index Volumes tab.
7. Click on the Manage Indexes button to open the Manage Indexes wizard.
8. Select the Synchronize option in the Manage Indexes wizard and click Next.
9. Verify the listing of index volume(s) in the window. If not, use the Add and/or Remove feature as needed. 10. Click Next.
11. Edit the Task name if needed and click Next.
12. Click on Create Task.
13. Click on Monitor Tasks.
14. Monitor the task through completion.
These steps will trigger a retry to index the failed items in the index volumes selected for the repair operation. Monitor the index volume(s) by refreshing the display of the Monitor Index Tasks to see the selected index volumes have their status changed from Normal to Rebuilding and back to Normal when the repair operation has finished. The Enterprise Vault Event Log can also be monitored for information events from the Index Server category stating when the repair operation begins and ends.
Addition of item to index abandoned is reported. When searching in Compliance Accelerator (CA), Veritas Advanced Supervision (VAS), or Discovery Accelerator (DA), the Info column displays the message Items or content missing from the index or Some items could not be searched.
