In order for a PST to be marked for migration, the option "Mark PST Files" must have been set on the Exchange Mailbox policy and synchronization must have taken place. More information on this can be found in the EV Administrators Guide.
To check that a PST has been marked for migration, follow the steps below:
- Launch Microsoft Outlook from an EV client machine with a user that has a PST that requires migrating.
- Hold down the "shift" and "ctrl" key then left mouse click any EV button, such as Archive Explorer, Restore from Vault or Store in Vault. This will launch the "Enterprise Vault Diagnostics" utility for the client.
- Set the logging level to "Information", Left mouse click OK and close Microsoft Outlook.
- Launch Microsoft Outlook again and launch the "Enterprise Vault Diagnostics" utility. Select the "Open Log" button. If the PST has been marked then the following line will exist as shown below.

In addition, as long as the EV client has been updated with the "Mark PST" option in policies, the line shown below should also exist in the text. If this is not shown then the "Mark PST" option has not filtered through to the client machine. This can take a while and it is recommended that reasonable time is allowed for PST's to be marked and the option to become enabled after synchronization.

In addition or alternately to the above the following method can also be used.
- Log onto an EV client machine as a user who has a PST requiring marking.
- Navigate to "Run" in the "Start Menu" and launch "REGEDIT". Navigate to the location in the Registry below.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\KVS\Enterprise Vault\Client\PSTsMarked
3. Under this location, the PST or PST's that have been marked for that user will appear as a long series of number and letters. This is shown in Figure 2.
