When performing Journal or Mailbox Archiving this error may occur referencing the same message or multiple messages. This error indicates there was a failure when attempting to archive the item.
Most commonly, the reason for this can be due to the message(s) being corrupt or unable to be opened.
Resolution
1. Remove the message(s)
If the message(s) cannot be opened or accessed they will not be able to be archived. If this is the case, it will be necessary to delete them from the mailbox, or move them out to a PST file, so Enterprise Vault will no longer attempt to archive them.
2. Rebuild the message(s)
Moving the message(s) out of the mailbox and back into the mailbox will force Microsoft Exchange to recreate the message object. If the problem with the message is due to a corrupted header or similar reason, having Microsoft Exchange rebuild the message object may allow the message to be archived.
Note: Since the message is removed from Exchange and then placed back into Exchange, the time stamp of the object will no longer be the same as the Send or Receive date of the message. This may delay archiving of the item, based on the current archiving rules. Time-based searches will also be inconsistent.
Once the message(s) are removed or rebuilt, Enterprise Vault will either be able to archive the message or continue archiving after the message.
3. Perform "move-mailbox" on Exchange
If possible, move the mailbox from current Exchange Database to another exchange database temporarily and then move it back to where it was.
Move-Mailbox jobs help fix the mapi structure of the messages in the mailbox and any corruption in the attributes also gets fixed.
Note: This process is not under Veritas Scope, but is a responsibility of an Exchange Admin. We have suggested this point as this has worked for a large number of our customers.
If there are any issues with the move-mailbox process, Veritas Support will not be responsible for the same. We recommend you perform this activity with an experienced Exchange Admin or with help of Microsoft Support if required.
