Description: "Setting database option SINGLE_USER to ON for database "EnterpriseVaultDirectory"
V-437-5084

Cause

After an upgrade of Enterprise Vault, the error "Could not connect to the Enterprise Vault directory" occurs and states to confirm that the "Enterprise Vault Directory Service" is running. After confirming that the "Enterprise Vault Directory Service" is running the Enterprise Vault Administration Console is still inaccessible. Upon checking the Event Log the following Microsoft Event IDs 5084 and 18456 are present.

Event ID 18456
Description:
Login failed for user

Event ID: 5084
Description:
Setting database option SINGLE_USER to ON for database Enterprise Vault Directory

After upgrading the binaries on the Enterprise Vault Server the Enterprise Vault Directory Service will update the SQL Enterprise Vault Directory database using SINGLE_USER mode. If the update then times out the Enterprise Vault Directory Database will remain in SINGLE_USER mode. When the remaining Enterprise Vault Services start Enterprise Vault is unable to properly connect to the Enterprise Vault Directory Database.

Resolution

  1. Stop all Enterprise Vault Services

  2. Restart SQL Server Service

  3. Start Enterprise Vault Admin and Directory Services

  4. Allow the Enterprise Vault Directory database updates to complete [monitor the SQL event log to see when it has completed]

  5. Start the remaining Enterprise Vault Services
