The connection to SQL Server could not be established.
The connection will be tried repeatedly until the Directory Service is stopped.

Resolution

Please try the follow options:
 
Option 1:
  1. Attempt to RDP to the SQL server
  2. Check the Services for the SQL Server Instance, if the Enterprise Vault SQL Server Instance is not running start the service
  3. Switch back to the Enterprise Vault server and check to see if the Directory Service has connected and started, if there is still a problem continue with the following steps
  4. If a connection to the SQL server cannot be made, ping the SQL server and see if it responds.
  5. If no Response reboot SQL server.
  6. If this does not resolve see Option 2.

 
Option 2:
 
The following steps will assist in confirming the SQL server.
 
  1. Check the event logs to confirm the SQL server listed is the correct SQL server.
  2.  If the event logs are referencing the wrong SQL server change the server in the Vault Admin Console (VAC)
    1. On the EV server open the VAC
    2. Right click on "Enterprise Vault"
    3. Click on "Change Directory SQL Server" enter correct server
    4. Restart the EV server
  3.  If steps one and two are correct  stop all the EV services from windows services.msc
  4.  From the Windows administrator tools open ODBC and go to the System DSN tab.
  5.  Click on the "EnterpriseVaultDirectory" in System Data Sources then click Configure
  6.  In the first window correct the SQL server name and instance name
  7.  Complete the ODBC keeping all defaults and test the connection
  8. Verify the registry has the correct SQL server name
  9. Go toHKLM\Software\WOW6432Node\KVS\Enterprise Vault\Directory\DirectoryService\SQLServer Name add the correct SQL server name.
  10. Save and close the registry editor
  11. Restart the EV server

 

Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.
 

 

 

Issue/Introduction

Event ID 8600 error will occur when the SQL server name is not configured correctly, or the SQL server is unreachable on the Enterprise Vault Server.
