The event that appears in the Event log is as follows:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Enterprise Vault
Event Category: Task Guardian
Event ID: 41024
Description:
The PstLocatorTask.exe process could not be started due to the following error:
Logon failure: the specified account password has expired
Check the privileges on the account that launched the process.

Resolution
1. Verify that the PST Locator Task's logon account is part of the Local Administrators Group
2. Verify that the PST Locator Task's logon account is granted the 'Logon as a Service' and 'Act as part of the Operating System' rights in the User Rights Assignment section of the Local Security Policy.
Note: If the PST Locator Task's logon account is the Vault Service Account, then these first two should already be configured correctly.
3. Verify that the PST Locator Task's Logon account is not locked out in Active Directory.
4. Set the PST Locator Task's logon account to 'Password never expires' and force replication across domain controllers.
Note: It is also possible for this error to occur when the PstLocatorTask.exe.config file is empty. This file is located in the root of the Enterprise Vault installation folder. The contents of the file should match the below:
