This article details the recommended method to support a Domino 9.0.1 server as an Enterprise Vault 'target mail server for archiving only', prior to full certification of the new minor release by the Enterprise Vault certification team.
This requires an Enterprise Vault 10.0.4 or later installation.
For Domino journaling only environments
- Upgrade the target mail servers to Domino 9.0.1 server.
- Upgrade the Lotus Notes client on the Enterprise Vault server(s) to 9.0.0
For Domino Mailbox Archiving (optionally including Domino journaling) environments
This solution will create Domino 9.0.0 Enterprise Vault mail templates and, if required, forms files on the Enterprise Vault Domino Gateway server, which can then be manually deployed to and used on Domino 9.0.1 target mail servers, which are supported as a 'target mail server for archiving only' but not yet fully certified.
(Note: It is highly recommended that customers make a backup of their existing templates and any Enterprise Vault customizations and test the new Domino version in a non-production mode before going live.)
- Upgrade the target mail servers to Domino 9.0.1.
- Upgrade the Domino server and Lotus Notes client on the Enterprise Vault Domino Gateway server(s) to Domino/Notes 9.0.0
- Upgrade the Lotus Notes client on any other Enterprise Vault server(s) (i.e.other than those that act as Enterprise Vault Gateway servers) to 9.0.0
- [Optional] If iNotes support is required, prior to starting the Domino server on the upgraded Enterprise Vault Domino Gateway server(s)
a. Ensure that iNotes\Forms9.nsf file on that server is the original version for Domino 9.0.0
i. If the Domino server did not require an upgrade (in Step 2) as it was already at the
required Domino version, retrieve the originals that you backed up when you first
configured this Enterprise Vault Domino Gateway.
ii. If the Domino server has just been upgraded, the Domino setup program will have
installed the required original file.
b. Backup iNotes\Forms9.nsf.
c. Open the Lotus Notes client on the Enterprise Vault Domino Gateway server, then open iNotes\Forms9.nsf locally and amend the ACL to grant Manager access to the notes account chosen to use EVInstall.nsf (as detailed in the Enterprise Vault Installing and Configuring guide, section 'Installing Enterprise Vault extensions for Lotus Notes and DWA')
d. Open the File \ Replication \ Options for this Application for iNotes\Forms9.nsf, switch to the 'Other' tab and check 'Temporarily disable replication for this replica' (this will prevent EV customizations replicating to the forms file on other servers and also later Domino version updates to the forms file replicating to this forms files on this server)
e. Start the Enterprise Vault Domino Gateway server.
- Run the EVInstall utility against the Enterprise Vault Domino Gateway(s) to create evdg templates and, if required, forms files on the EVDG as follows:
a. Log into the Notes client on the EVDG, using the notes account chosen to use EVInstall.nsf (as detailed in the Enterprise Vault Installing and Configuring guide, section 'installing Enterprise Vault extensions for Lotus Notes and DWA').
b. Open the EVInstall utility (EVInstall.nsf in the data root of the EVDG)
c. Populate the 'Enterprise Vault Domino Gateway Server' field with the name of the EVDG.
d. Leave the 'Domino Mail Server' field blank.
e. [Optional] If iNotes support is required, check the 'Modify Domino Web Access Forms Files' field.
f. Click on the 'Install Veritas Enterprise Vault 10.0 database design templates' button to create evdg templates and, if required, forms files on the EVDG.

- Run EVInstall against the Enterprise Vault Domino Gateway to create ev_Mail9.ntf mail template on the EVDG as follows:
a. Log into the Notes client on the EVDG, using the notes account chosen to use EVInstall.nsf (as detailed in the Enterprise Vault Installing and Configuring guide, section 'Installing Enterprise Vault extensions for Lotus Notes and DWA').
b. Open the EVInstall utility (EVInstall.nsf in the data root of the EVDG).
c. Leave the 'Enterprise Vault Domino Gateway Server' field blank.
d. Populate the 'Domino Mail Server' field with the name of the EVDG.
e. Click on the 'Install Veritas Enterprise Vault 10.0 database design templates' button to create ev_Mail9.ntf template on the EVDG

- Deploy the ev_Mail9.ntf template from the EVDG to the target mail server and replace the design of user mail files with this template.
- [Optional] If iNotes Support is required, backup iNotes\Forms9.nsf and iNotes\Forms9_x.nsf on the target mail server(s), then overwrite them with iNotes\Forms9.nsf and iNotes\Forms9_x.nsf from the EVDG, then restart the http task (tell http restart) on the target mail server(s) to harness the forms files updates.
The net result of the process above is that the target mail servers can run Domino 9.0.1 but the EV mail template used to update user mail files and, if iNotes is required, the forms files used on that server are based on Domino 9.0.0. This ensures that you are using fully tested and certified EV mail templates and Forms files, even though they are now located on Domino 9.0.1 server binaries
The only minor limitation in this configuration is that any new functionality introduced by IBM into the standard mail template and/or Forms files in Domino 9.0.1 will not be available until the Enterprise Vault certification team have fully tested and certified that version.
