The following error will be logged in the Enterprise Vault Event log when a client attempts to access an archived item:

Cause

This may occur if the Enterprise Vault binaries are corrupted on the Enterprise Vault (EV) server.

Resolution

Re-installing the Enterprise Vault binaries (it is unnecessary to completely uninstall first) may resolve the issue. 
This is accomplished by running Setup.exe from the EV installation media. 
 
Note: Running the configuration is NOT needed in this scenario
