How to bulk delete or mass delete the archived items from a specific folder within the archive.

To delete all the > 1000 items from a specific folder within the archive the following steps can be performed :

1. Login to Enterprise Vault Server using Vault Service account login credentials.

2. Open Vault Admin Console and select Archives in the left pane.

3. Right click on the Archives and select Export.

4. The Export Archive Wizard will pop up in a new window.

5. In the wizard, select radio button for Export Archives to PST files and click next.

6. Specify  the source archive and click next.

7. Now Specify which items to export dialog box will appear.

8. In this dialog box, at the bottom select radio button for Export all items from this root folder path.

9. Specify the folder path as given in the example: \rootfolder\subfolder as shown in Figure 1.

10. For example, if there is sub-folder called "Test" under "Inbox" then mention \Inbox\test in the folder path.

11. Check the box in front of Remove exported items from archive. This will remove all the archived items from mentioned folder path.

12. If there is a requirement to remove all the archived items from sub-folders under mentioned folder path, check the box in front of Export items from sub-folders below root

13. Click next and enter the PST file location to store the PST file.

14. Click next and  Specify the structure of the output files dialog box will appear.

15. Check the box in front of Limit the size of individual destination PST files to: and use the default value 600 MB. (Use this option to split the archived items in to multiple PST files).

16. Accept defaults and click next.

17. On Confirm your export settings dialog box, review the export settings and click next to proceed.

18. Export Archives Wizard will complete the export operation and will show the status processed.

19. If there are any failed entries, please click on View Report file to see the possible cause of the failure. Open a case with technical support if required.

20. Open the archive explorer and verify that the archived items under the mentioned folder path have been removed or deleted.

21. To remove the orphan shortcuts, run the Mailbox Archiving Task in Shortcut Processing Mode against the affected mailbox.

Issue/Introduction

Bulk archived items can be deleted from the archive using the Archive Explorer, Search utility or Outlook Client.
However it is not recommended to delete more than 1000 items at once.
