Description

Error Message

Java popup windows such as that shown in the image above may be unresponsive to any user interactions, leaving EVS unusable.

Cause

This is related to environmental security settings for Internet Explorer, though a precise pairing of settings to symptoms is yet undetermined.  When these java pop-up windows are initiated, the window initially opens to the Internet Explorer default home page of "about:blank."  With Enhanced Internet Explorer Security Configuration (EIESC) enabled, neither Trusted Sites nor Local Intranet Zone settings have exceptions for this page by default.

Resolution

Workarounds
  1. Open the Server Manager console from the task bar
  2. Select Local Server
  3. Scroll down the list of features to find the Enhanced Internet Explorer Security Configuration option.
  4. Disable the Enhanced Internet Explorer Security Configuration option.
OR
  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Open Internet Options
  3. Select the Security tab
  4. Select Trusted Sites in the zones window
  5. Click the "Sites" button below
  6. Manually type "about:blank" (without the quotes) in the site field
  7. Click Add and close the Window
Note: No restart of EV services or IIS is necessary for either solution.

Issue/Introduction

In Enterprise Vault 11 environments running on Windows 2012 or Windows 2012 R2 operating systems, the Enterprise Vault Search (EVS) web page has multiple features that prompt users for interaction with java pop-up windows. Some examples are defining archive groups and accessing advanced user preferences. When these java windows appear, they supersede the base EVS page and don't respond to key strokes or mouse clicks, rendering EVS unusable.
