Error Message
A Dtrace of the EvPlaceholderService process on the Windows file server will show the following:
[EvFileDeleted] Retain archived flag is set. So it is NOT queued for deletion.
Cause
When deleting a Placeholder from the file system, there are certain conditions that must be met in order for the archived copy to also be deleted.
Resolution
To delete a Placeholder and the Archived copy, the following settings must be configured:
- Properties of the File Server target | Delete Placeholder tab | Delete Archived File
- Properties of the Volume policy or Folder policy | Shortcuts tab must have the setting Delete archived files when placeholder is deleted enabled
When enabling the first setting, a restart of the Enterprise Vault Admin service is required to take effect
Notes:
Enterprise Vault ignores both settings on NTFS volumes for which pass-through recall is enabled to avoid possible data loss.
The Site setting “Users can delete from their archives” is NOT required for this functionality to work
