Unable to restore items using the Enterprise Vault Shopping Service using Search.ASP or Outlook Web Access (OWA)

Resolution

This event is resolved by setting the following best practice registry values on the Enterprise Vault servers:
 
DisableStrictNameChecking
 
Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.
 
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. In Registry Editor, locate the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
     
  3. Right-click Parameters choose New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.
  4. Type DisableStrictNameChecking, and press ENTER
  5. Right-click DisableStrictNameChecking and choose Modify.
  6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  7. Restart the server.

Issue/Introduction

An attempt to restore emails through either Search.ASP or Outlook Web Access (OWA) fails and the following Events are logged: Error Message These items are found in the Enterprise Vault log in the Event Viewer:
