Cause

The archived items would be deleted from archive when instigated as a HARD DELETE to placeholders.

e.g.

Delete the placeholder from an UNC path.  Or login to the Windows file server and instigate a hard deletion using SHIFT + DELETE keys in Windows Explorer. Then the EV PlacehoderService will trigger a call EvFileDeleted and initialize the function RequestedDeleteVaultItem for processing 'delete vault item' request.

When instigated as a SOFT DELETE whilst logged onto the file server

e.g.

Delete placeholders in Windows Explorer using DELETE key only on the file server locally, the call RequestedDeleteVaultItem would not be triggered.

Resolution

Use SHIFT +DELETE keys to delete placeholders if need to delete placeholders with archived items on the file server locally.

Issue/Introduction

Archived files could not get deleted from archives after deleting placeholders on Windows file servers locally. But they can be deleted when instigating the deletion remotely. File server Properties Delete Placeholder tab of the Enterprise Vault (EV) Administration Console already is set to "Delete archived file". In File policy > Shortcuts tab, the checkbox of "Delete archived file when placeholder is deleted" is also ticked.
