For CA/DA 8.x, 9.x, 10.x and 11.x

1. Open the CA/DA Client with an account that has proper permissions, such as the Vault Service Account (VSA).

2. Click the Configuration tab, then the Settings sub-tab.

3. Scroll down the list of setting sections and click the plus sign next to Search.

4. Locate the Optimize searches based on oldest and youngest items option (options are not listed alphabetically in CA/DA 8.x or 9.x).
Note: Setting improves performance by excluding from a search those vault index volumes that CA/DA has determined does not contain any items in the date range you have specified in the search criteria.

5. Click area under the Value column in this option's row to see a check box with a check mark appear.

6. Expand the options for Vault Directory Synchronization.

7. Locate the Synchronize thread checking period (sec) option, change the value in the Value column of this option to 3600 (default is 21600), then click the Save button in the lower right of the page.
Note: Setting governs the frequency in seconds synchronizations between CA/DA and Enterprise Vault. Lowering synch time speeds up CA/DA recognition of new archives, vault stores and retention categories.

8. Click the Save button in the lower right corner to save both changes.

9. Click the OK  button to acknowledge the pop-up alert indicating the Customer Background Tasks must be restarted in order for the changes to take effect.

Issue/Introduction

Search performance can be improved in Enterprise Vault (EV) Compliance Accelerator (CA) and Discovery Accelerator (DA) if index volumes that do not contain data within the search date scope can be ignored by the search. There is a configuration option, which is off by default, that allows such index volumes to be bypassed during search operations.
