Cause
After an Archive Run has processed against the Enterprise Vault File System Archiving (FSA) targets, and the Vault Store was set to remove safety copies "After Backup", the resulting DVS files held in the Vault Store must be backed up in order to clear the archive bit. Once the Archive Bit has been cleared, on the next FSA Run, the items will be turned in to a placeholder.
If the Vault Store has been set to "Immediately After Archive" and the items need to be turned in to placeholders, one of the two solutions can be implemented.
Resolution
- Allow regular backups to clear the archive bit and have Storage File Watch scan the directories which will then update Enterprise Vault.
- On the next FSA Run, the task will see the item has been backed up by querying Enterprise Vault and, in turn will transform the files to placeholders.
- If the archive attribute has not been reset, verify the backup software configuration and confirm that the archive bit is being reset correctly. If the backup software does not support the archive bit, then the backup administrator needs to implement the trigger file mechanism. See the Related articles section for more information.
