Cause

This issue can be caused by having a very large number of Archives in the environment and having the configuration setting 'Synchronise archives on search' enabled.  When this setting is enabled, a synchronization of all Archives to be searched is forced to occur before the Search can run.  Having a large number of Archives selected to be searched can cause the Client update process to be delayed to the point where the Client fails to respond to any changes until it is closed and opened again.

Resolution

Disable Synchronise archives on search and restart the Enterprise Vault Accelerator Manager Service using the following steps:
  1. Launch the CA or DA Client using an account with sufficient Administration level permissions to change configuration settings, such as the Vault Service Account.
  2. Click on the Configuration tab.
  3. Click on the Settings sub-tab.
  4. Scroll to and expand the Vault Directory Synchronization section.
  5. Scroll down to the setting Synchronise archives on search.
  6. Uncheck the check box in the Value column for this setting.  This setting is unchecked by default and must have been previously manually checked to enable Searches to force the synchronization to occur before Searches run.
  7. Click the Save button in the lower right of the page.
  8. Click on the OK button in the pop-up window that states the Customer Background Tasks must be restarted to complete this configuration change.
  9. Close the CA or DA Client.
  10. On the EV server using the Vault Service Account, either
    1. Restart the Enterprise Vault Accelerator Manager Service through the Services MMC snap-in, or
    2. Restart the Customer Background Tasks trough the EVBAAdmin site.
At this point, saving Searches should return the Client to the Searches sub-tab with the newly submitted Search showing so that it's progress can be monitored as needed.

Issue/Introduction

The Compliance Accelerator (CA) or Discovery Accelerator (DA) Client goes into a not responding state when saving a Search. Closing the Client and opening it again shows the Search has been successfully submitted and may already be in one of the processing states.
