2016-04-06 17:45:44 Error opening Clip for Scanning, Clip-Id: FEPWERTEFERE0EBJ0CE4U45IV4G4190NR6M8H0L59LBUOA81D83C, Error: Error opening EMC Centera C-Clip Function call: %1 Status: %2 (%3) Reason: %4 Pool Address: %5 For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://entced.symantec.com/entt?product=ev&language=english&version=11.0.1.0&build=11.0.1.3598&error=V-437-6761 (0xc0041a69)
Cause
There could be several reasons for invalid clips such as an actual corruption. However in this scenario, the problem is due to the fact the the Centera SDK would return clips which have been deleted but still present on the Centera (known as Reflections). Opening the clip to perform other validations such as if it was created by Enterprise Vault (EV) and to which partition it belong will fail.
If multiple Centera Partitions share the same Pool, the same invalid clips would be reported if the partitions are being scanned separately using EVSVR. This is because when scanning a Centera Partition, a list of clips (with the Existing Status - i.e not Deleted) from the pool is returned first and then checked further to confirm the EV Partition or Vaultstore association.
In some cases for example, if Storage Expiry has just completed a run a large amount of items were deleted, the number of invalid clips can be high. As a result, the number of invalid clips can vary from a handful to several thousands.
Resolution
How long the Reflections will remain on the Centera depends is a Centera Configuration such as Reflection Expiration which are then purge by the Garbage Collection.
However, the EMC administrators will need to confirm that the invalid clips being reported by EVSVR are indeed Reflections.
EMC Support will need to be contacted if further help is needed on Reflections.
Issue/Introduction
When running EVSVR operation against a Centera such as Verify DatabasesReferences which will scan a Centera Partition for clips to validate their existence in the associated SQL Vaultstore Database invalid clips may be reported as invalid by EVSVR.
All EVSVR Operations which scan the Centera Partition first for list of clips might show the invalid clips. Some example operations are:
1. EVSVR Verify DatabaseReferences
2. EVSVR Repair DatabaseReferences - Without Item List
3. EVSVR Repair Archives - without Item List
