Cause
This occurs when the Enterprise Vault Admin Service is stopped on one or more of the Enterprise Vault Servers in the site. The expectation for Update Service Locations is that all Enterprise Vault Services on all Servers are online (started) and any fail over destination servers match the Enterprise Vault Services of the source server, when using this utility. The Enterprise Vault Server Cache must also be configured on the destination server as it should have been on the source server.
Resolution
Workaround
Option 1:
- Check all Enterprise Vault Admin Services are started on each server in the site.
Option 2:
- Use Dtrace of MMC to identify which server is not online (Admin Service started). Review Dtrace for the lines shown above.

Issue/Introduction
In a building blocks environment if there is a need to run Update Service Locations, the process will fail when the Enterprise Vault Admin Service is stopped on at least one Enterprise Vault Server in the same site.
Update Service Location fails and exits without showing any error or information as to what in the process fails and what server that relates to.
