Cause

When the deletion is performed by Windows clients using Operating System versions higher than Windows 7, the user I/O operation is passed as SMB_OPEN and intercepted in a way that does not trigger the DoD processing.

OR

When Opportunistic Locking is disabled on a NetApp C-Mode share, Delete-On-Delete will fail with error 0x80070003 (Path Not Found).

If the deletion is performed by Windows client systems running Windows 7, or earlier versions, the I/O operation is correctly passed as SMB_DEL, triggering the deletion of the associated content from the Archive. This is also the case when the deletion is performed from non-Windows clients, such as Linux based platforms.

Note: This issue is only applicable to FSA Placeholders hosted on NetApp C-Mode Vservers. With NetApp filers and vfilers running in 7-Mode, the DoD processing works as expected regardless of the client.
