A task in the Waiting state requires users attention to analyse the problem and issue further instructions as to how to the task should proceed further to complete processing. The below table lists each type of the task and why it may be in a waiting state,

If the “Ignore items that cannot be indexed” option is not marked while creating the task, then the task would go into waiting state when it encounters an error and cannot proceed until further instructions are provided.
For example, an error occurs when items cannot be retrieved from the storage or items cannot be indexed.
Launch the Index Monitoring Tool, right click on the task or subtask in Waiting state and select the option “Process waiting subtasks”.
Then you have two options to choose –
“Retry the failed items and continue”, to retry once and complete processing even if errors continue to occur
Or
“Retry the failed items and wait again if there are still errors”, to retry and wait if errors continue to occur.

Change Location
|
If the “The index folders have been copied to the new location” option is not marked while creating the task, then the task would be in the waiting state until the administrator manually copies the index files from the old location to the new location.
Once files have been copied to the new location, launch the Index Monitoring Tool, right click on the task and select the option “I have copied the files”.
