Description

When Clearwell performs a Production Export job, a document can be produced as an Image ( same as if the document were printed to a piece of paper ) or a Native ( the original file ).  During the Production Export job for a document that has redactions, the document image is combined with the redactions of the document being produced which essentially burns the redactions to an image.  The only modes that will produce redactions are Images and Mixed modes that are configured on a Production Folder.  Below is a list of the modes and descriptions that are available to configure for a Production Folder.

Production Types Description
Images This mode will only export images of documents
Natives This mode will only export the original files
Mixed This mode allows a mixture of images and natives that are configurable by the user

Here are some further details about the Production Type modes:

Images

When selecting this mode for the Production Type, all documents that are produced from a Production Folder will be produced as an image.

Natives

When selecting this mode for the Production Type, all documents that are produced from a Production Folder will be produced as the original document.

Mixed mode

When selecting this mode for the Production Type, by default, the only type that would be produced as an image are documents with redactions.  Below is the default configuration for the Mixed Mode Production Type Filter.

Native Image
Adobe Acrobat PDF [ All items with Redactions ]
All images
All multimedia (sound and video files)
All programs
Emails
Microsoft Excel
Microsoft PowerPoint
Microsoft Word
Other presentations
Other types

When setting up a Production Folder, the options shown above ( just as they show in the configuration screen for the Production Folder ) can be changed by dragging ( left click and hold while dragging ) a file type from the Native column to the Image column or vice versa.  Once the Production Folder is Locked, no changes can be made until the folder is Unlocked.

Note:  If a Production Folder has been Locked and a Production Export job has been run already, this uses up some of the Bates numbers allotted for a case.  When the folder is Unlocked, changed, Locked again and then another Production Export job is run, different Bates numbers will be used for the documents.  This can become an issue if the first Production Export results has already been supplied to opposing counsel in a court case where the numbers must say the same.

When the Production Folder is Unlocked, the user can only perform Metadata or Native Export jobs against the document(s) within the Production Folder.  When the Production Folder is Locked, the options in the Production Export job to include the Native files or include Images will be grayed out as the Production Folder selected in the Production Export job is forcing the settings imposed in the settings of the Production Folder.  The other types of export jobs ( Metadata and Native Only ) are not affected by the settings of the Production Folder.  Ensure that the correct mode is selected so that the Production Export job will produce the needed results.
