Description

In some situations, it may be necessary to be able to perform simultaneous collections from a single domain in Microsoft Exchange O365 using a single eDiscovery Platform instance.  In order to do so, the following requirements need to be met:
  • Separate, licensed email accounts in the same domain that have full access permissions to the mailboxes that will be collected.
  • Separate property entries in eDiscovery Platform configured for each source account that will be used to perform collections
  • Separate source accounts configured for collections
To setup this per the requirements above, do the following:
  1. In eDiscovery Platform, go to ALL COLLECTIONS > SOURCE ACCOUNTS and add the domain user source account with credentials to be used for collections
  2. Repeat step 1 for each account that will need to be created to be used to run collections at the same time.
  3. Then go to SYSTEM > SUPPORT FEATURES > PROPERTY BROWSER
  4. For "Select the case (or system)" select "System"
  5. In the "Name of property to change" field, type in "esa.icp.exchange.online.sao365emailId."
    • In the "" part of the property, only enter the account name and not the domain
    • Example: "esa.icp.exchange.online.sao365emailId.o365collectionaccount1"
  6. In the “New value (leave blank to remove)” field type in the O365 account name with the domain
    • Example: o365collection1@domain.com
  7. Place a check on the checkbox for "Commit change (Are you sure?)"
  8. Click "Submit"
  9. Then repeat steps 3 - 8 for each of the accounts that you want to use for collections to run at the same time from Microsoft Exchange O365
  10. Then, when setting up a collection, select the account that will be used for each collection that will run at the same time.

When using this type of configuration to perform collections from Microsoft Exchange O365, the collection performance will be affected since there are multiple connections open to the Microsoft Exchange O365 server at the same time, which can cause degradation in throughput.

Note:

This collection method utilizes the MAPI over HTTP (Mapi/Http) protocol introduced in eDiscovery version 8.2.7.  A new collection method using the Microsoft Graph API was introduced in eDiscovery version 9.5.1, which does not require the above properties or mailbox accounts in the O365 tenant domain.
