Cause

This usually indicates that:

1.  Scanning credentials do not have enough privileges to scan the failed path.

Or

2.  One of the scanned paths experienced a deletion during the scan.

Resolution

You can confirm the cause of the Partial Scan by looking at the Scan Errors for the share:

In the UI, navigate to Settings - Inventory - Filers - - Monitored Shares.

Then use the Select Action drop-down for the share and choose Scan Status.

In the Scan Status windows, select the Scan Errors tab to display the paths that failed and the reason for the failure.

To confirm whether scanning credential has sufficient privileges to scan those paths:

  1. Note the share that is showing the "Partial" status
  2. Log into the Collector node for the corresponding device.
  3. From the Collector node, try to mount the share using the same credentials you have specified for scanning in Data Insight.

If you receive an error indicating permissions issues or "Access Denied", it indicates the credentials used are insufficient. Either fix permissions on the share (and ensure permissions are inherited by all sub-folders) to allow for successful scanning OR edit device settings and provide an alternate scanning credential. After you address the issues, restart the scan.

For a partial scan that is the result of a deletion during the scan, check the scan path for Temp folders and add these as scan exclusions via the filer configuration page and repeat the scan.

Note: Partial scans have no effect on the validity of audit data and only serve to report the failure to scan certain items in the scan directory.
