Description

This article describes how you can configure G Suite from Google to send journal emails to the Enterprise Vault SMTP server.

This article does not describe how to set up Enterprise Vault SMTP Archiving. The manual, Setting up SMTP Archiving, contains detailed instructions on how to configure this feature. For additional information on Enterprise Vault SMTP Archiving, such as best practices and performance, see the documents on the Veritas support website, http://www.veritas.com/docs/100040611.

Step 1: Add an SMTP routing addresses to direct emails to the Enterprise Vault SMTP servers

Create a routable SMTP address that you want to use to send the email messages from G Suite to the Enterprise Vault SMTP server. SMTP routing addresses are added as manual SMTP target addresses. You can use the Enterprise Vault Administration Console. Refer to the section “Adding SMTP routing addresses” in the Setting up SMTP Archiving guide.

Step 2: Ensure Public Access to Port 25 on the Enterprise Vault SMTP server

To journal emails directly from G Suite to your Enterprise Vault SMTP server, you must have a public IP address, port 25 open and NATed to the Enterprise Vault SMTP server. You can test the port connection by attempting to telnet to the Enterprise Vault SMTP server on port 25.

Step 3: Add Google IP Address ranges to the Allow list of Enterprise Vault SMTP server

G Suite mail servers use a large range of IP addresses, which may change. To determine the current Google IP
address range, see the section Google IP address ranges for outbound SMTP in the G Suite Admin Help.

For more information about the formats that you can use to specify the hosts that may connect to the SMTP servers, refer to the section “Entering the name or IP address of connecting hosts” in the Setting up SMTP Archiving guide.

Step 4: Configure Third-party email archiving

  1. Sign in to the G Suite domain console, and go to Apps > G Suite > Gmail > Advanced settings.
  2. Click General settings, scroll to Third-party email archiving, and click Configure.

  3. Enter a unique name to identify the setting, add the routing address of the Enterprise Vault SMTP server to relay journal emails from G Suite, and click Add Setting.

Step 5: Configure a Send connector from G Suite to the Enterprise Vault SMTP server

  1. Click Hosts and click ADD ROUTE.
  2. In the Add mail route page, enter the Enterprise Vault SMTP server settings:
    1. Type Enterprise Vault SMTP server in the Name field.
    2. In the Specify email server section, enter the Enterprise Vault SMTP server public IP address or public DNS record.
You can optionally select Require secure transport (TLS). When selected, you must set Enable SMTP over SSL/TLS setting on the Enterprise Vault SMTP server.
If you are using a self-signed certificate, clear Require CA signed certificate.
    3. Click Save.

Step 6: Configure routing of messages

  1. Click General settings, scroll to Routing, and click Configure.

  2. Enter a unique name to identify the setting, and select all of the check boxes under Messages to affect.

  3. Scroll to Also deliver to, click Add more recipients, and click Add.
  4. Under Recipients, select Advanced from the drop-down menu.

  5. Select Change route and select Enterprise Vault SMTP server from the drop-down.

  6. Clear Do not deliver spam to this recipient, and select Suppress bounces from this recipient.
