Question:
How does the 'Fixed Expiry Date' option in Retention Category Properties work?
Answer:
- 'Fixed expiry date' Specifies a fixed date on which to expire ALL the items that have this retention category.
- Expiration for ALL items in this retention category will commence on or after the date specified. This will occur regardless of when the items was archived.
- This setting will also affect all shortcuts in users mailboxes that belong to the retention category.
- When the 'Fixed Expiry Date' option is set on a Retention Category the date specified is the date that Storage Expiry and Shortcut Expiry will begin to expire items in storage and shortcuts from users mailboxes.
- If the 'Fixed Expiry Date' is set in the future expiry will not begin for that category until that date has been reached.
- If the 'Fixed Expiry Date' is set in the past storage expiry for that retention category will begin immediately according to the storage expiry schedule and shortcut expiry for that retention category will begin immediately according to the Archive Task schedule.
- The purpose of this setting is to expire ALL items with a specific Retention Category beginning on a fixed date. The 'Fixed Expiry Date' has nothing to do with when the item was archived or modified.
