Cause

Using the server name in the URL, the IE browser will treat the address as an intranet site.  By default IE enables the displaying of intranet site webpages in compatibility mode.

Resolution

Disable the setting: 'Display intranet sites in Compatibility View'.
(Internet Explorer will need to be restarted after the setting has been changed)

Notes:

  • This setting is by user, the change only has to be set once for a user on any particular computer.
  • No services need to be restarted.
  • This setting can be controlled by Group Policy.
    • Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer > Compatibility View.
    • Enable "Turn on Internet Explorer Standards Mode for local intranet  "

Step 1:  Open IE > Tools Icon >  Compatibility View Settings

Step 2: Remove the servername references (if any) from the 'Websites you've added to Compatibility View:' and uncheck the 'Display intranet sites in Compatibility View', then Close.

Issue/Introduction

When using the FQDN or NetBios server name within the URL, Internet Explorer (IE) does not display the pages correctly. Navigation within IE is unresponsive for many of the links as well as while on the All Cases page or in Review Mode, both text and native view, no information is displayed and the page remains in a hung state.
When logged into the server and using 'localhost' in the URL instead of the server name NetBios or FQDN, IE functions normally.
Examples of the issue.
