Cause

Windows firewall enabled on EV servers, but not configured for DCOM TCP & UDP ports.

Resolution

Configure Enterprise Vault Distributed COM (DCOM) services to function through a Windows Firewall.

1. Add the required port range as follows:
1.1 Click Start, Administrative Tools, Component Services.
1.2. Expand Component Services, Computers.
1.3. Right-click My Computer and select Properties.
1.4. Click the Default Protocols tab.
1.5. Select Connection-oriented TCP/IP, and click Properties.
1.6. Use the Add button to add the required port range, for example, "49153-49453".
1.7. You can choose any ports between 49152 - 65535. Ensure that you have at least 300 ports available.
1.8. Leave all other settings with default values.
1.9. Apply the changes.

2. Create the required firewall rules:
2.1. Click Start, Administrative Tools, Windows Firewall.
2.2. Click Inbound Rules, and check that that "COM+ Network Access (DCOM-In)" is enabled.
2.3. Create an inbound rule for TCP Port 135, if one does not exist.
2.4. Create an inbound rule of type "Port". Select TCP and specify the port range that you used in step 1.
2.5. Create another inbound rule of type "Port". Select UDP and specify the port range that you used in step 1.

3. Reboot the server.

Information on the ports used by Enterprise Vault are also listed in the Administrator's guide under 'About the ports used by Enterprise Vault'.
