A Dtrace of StorageOnlineOpns will report the following error:

Note: This error may also occur in the StorageCrawler process during indexing operations. 

Cause

By default, EV automatically determines which Global Catalog server to use. In this instance, the old decommissioned Domain Controller value was hardcoded into VAC, hence the task was unable to find the user.

Resolution

Update value for Global Catalog server with working Domain Controller under domain properties via the EV Administration Console

    1. Go to Vault Admin Console
    2. Expand Directory > Site > Target > Exchange
    3. Right-Click domain and select Properties
    4. If Use specific Global Catalog server is checked, enter the FQDN of the working domain controller
    5. Uncheck Use specific Global Catalog server to allow EV to determine the server to use
