No error thrown.
For MAPI messages, it has been observed that Outlook itself does not create the original message properly even though there is no observable issue with Outlook reading the message when received by the recipients of the email. During Archiving, EV receives an HTML rendering of the message in a corrupted form which is then Archived and Indexed.
It has also been observed that replies and forwards do not exhibit this behaviour. The current thought is that Outlook is recompiling the HTML rendering which repairs the original corrupted HTML rendering, thus displaying emojis correctly.
